Local activist AJ Freno of Old Bridge is one of eight leaders across the United States who has joined the Senior Leadership Team of a groundbreaking nonprofit, the National Transgender Leadership Conference Committee (NTLCC). The NTLCC today launched operations as a new organization working to build community and drive progress through trans leadership development.
The NTLCC announced a monthly programming series, Launch to Lead, connecting young and early-career trans folks with leaders in art, science, politics, and more.
“I am so proud to continue my work as an advocate for trans and queer futures with the NTLCC. My dedication to uplifting trans and queer voices continues to blossom thanks to all of the people who support me in New Jersey and Philadelphia. In my new role at the NTLCC, I aim to give back to the incredible community of trans and queer folks that have given me so much hope, strength, and love,” said Freno.
Operations began today at the new nonprofit. The NTLCC marked the conclusion of six months of preparatory work that saw the organization grow from a seedling idea to a team effort in full bloom, say the leaders. There are six Vice Presidents supporting Executive President Lily E. Rood and Executive Vice President Jay Jones. Rood and Jones are nationally-recognized activists that have now put their vision for trans leadership development into motion.
“My vision for the NTLCC’s programming is to create spaces for trans folks to learn from each other, make connections with professionals who share experiences with them, and to magnify positive, joyful, and successful stories so that we can continue to make more of them. At this moment in our country and community, these stories and opportunities are more important than ever.
“I am humbled and grateful to have a part in making sure that trans folks all over, including in my home state of New Jersey and adopted city of Philadelphia, have a chance to hear them.” Freno said.
