Spurred by a dream a dozen years before it was penned, Jennifer DiOrio has been working for two years on the writing and production of her script, Offsides, a coming-of-age melodrama set in suburban New Jersey in 1990.

The process of writing the play took many unexpected twists and turns, the fledgling playwright explains. “The motivation has changed a lot over the years. The story came to me in a dream in 1996. Then it was about soccer, cutting corners, and sibling rivalry. Now it’s about a girl who is at a crossroads. She is a complicated kid. Her troubled family has great expectations of her. Her inner beauty and self are waiting to emerge.”
