An extraordinary thing happened in the late Spring of 1980. John Bickell opened a 96 acre tract of woods in the middle of nowhere for gay camping. It was a first for Pennsylvania, in fact a first for the East Coast. There was basically nothing there except an outhouse, an open field and some logging roads. Showers were taken with a bucket hung over a tree.
