Beth has been part of the artists tour for 11 years and is known primarily for her photography. She first showed her work in 2002 when Cardenas invited her to be part of the first LGBT group show he was curating for the Jersey City Artist Tour. It was at the home he shared with his partner Paul Mendoza. Paul and Miguel had founded Jersey City Lesbian and Gay Outreach in 2001 as a way to bring a Pride Festival to Jersey City. Achenbach joined the group after being introduced to them by her partner Catherine Hecht, who at the time was also the Co-Chair of the organization.

“Miguel gave me my very first opportunity to show my photos and I was so flattered to be a part of that very first LGBT show” says Achenbach, who is taking a side step in her artistic endeavors and has created a collection of works for “Between The Lines” that is 100% digitally created and embraces the familiarity of simple objects, bold color schemes and the whir of the world around us.

Cardenas, an architect by trade, has produced a series of digital montages printed on canvas, using pop culture, logos and silk screening that attempt to blur the line between Art and Design by creating a narrative of associations. His works are colorful, refreshing, intelligent and historical.

Between The Lines is stop #38 on the Jersey City Artist Tour Map and will be open Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th. There will be an opening reception on Saturday October 5th from 6pm to 8pm which will include a performance by Chilean folk music duo The Apple & The Tree at 7pm. The father and daughter musical act is comprised of Sirena Mercado, part of Sirelo Entertainment and her Papi, Manny Arancibia. Their love for one another and their music is undeniable and is a joy to take in!

The show is on Saturday, October 5th and Sunday, October 6th at the Mary Benson Gallery, 369 Third Street Jersey City, NJ. For more information visit www.facebook.com/pages/Mary-Benson-Gallery.
