As prom season approaches the nation, it presents a great opportunity for the LGBT community to come together, dress up in fancy tuxedos and gowns, and help to promote a worthy cause. In Asbury Park, NJ the Pink Prom is held each year. The proceeds will benefit Project REAL and Ali Forney Center.
The Pink Prom will be on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 8 pm to midnight at the Hotel Tides. The two organizations are non-profits that work within the LGBT community in different ways that help LGBT youth. Project REAL is a safe place where young Gay and Bi-Sexual men can feel comfortable in Asbury Park. It provides a meeting space where gay and bi-sexual men can build a community of social networks. The Ali Forney Center protects LGBT youth from the harms of homelessness and empowers them with the tools needed to live independently.
The Pink Prom is a 21-and-over event and will include the following:
* Passed hors d’oeuvres and buffet;
* Three complimentary spiked punch bowls, and cash bar available;
* Live entertainment by Brazilian belly dancers Yame & Fernanda;
* Dancing with DJ Mick Hale;
* Desserts provided by Confections of a Rockstar;
* A local photographer to snap memorable prom photos of attendees;
* 2018 Prom King and Queen presentation;

An after party will be held at Georgies Bar in Asbury Park. At Georgies, Lady Marisa will host a special award presentation. Awards for “best drag,” “best smile,” “best dressed,” “class clown,” and “Miss Congeniality” will be awarded. Nominees will be determined at prom, and the top three will be acknowledged at the after party. DJ Stanley Stylez will be dropping the beats. Free shuttle service will be available to Georgies from the Hotel Tides.
“Every year we seek to make it that much better than the previous. As founder of this elegant and successful LGBTQ fundraiser, arguably one of the most successful ones in New Jersey, this is my baby and every year it makes me so proud to see it grow that much larger,” said Eric Pinckney, event founder and author of the city’s LGBT blog, “Living in the gay scene of Asbury Park.” “I wanted to give something back to the community, which is why I decided on such a fun event. I mean, who doesn’t love a prom? ”
