Asbury Lanes reopens with a little help from some big names

Asbury Lanes had a complete transformation with a a grand opening fitting of the glory that Asbury Park is recapturing. The 1960s era bowling alley-turned music venue is transformed. Asbury Lanes, in partnership with Asbury Park Master Developer iStar and The Bowery Presents, celebrated the venue’s complete transformation on a balmy Monday, June 18 evening with a an opening fitting of the glory that Asbury Park is recapturing.

The event fundraiser was in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County with an iStar’s $125,000 donation. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County is a private non-profit organization that empowers youth and serves children that come from some of the most difficult circumstances in the county.

The Asbury Park boardwalk is notorious for celebrity sightings

In the past several weeks, Asbury Park has seen Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Danny DeVito hit Asbury Park. The Asbury Park boardwalk always is notorious for a celebrity sighting or two during the summer months. This event was no exception! In attendance were actors Hugh Jackman and Adrian Grenier, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Asbury Park Mayor John Moor, along with top entertainment executives, models and Milk co-founder Mazdack Rassi and Zanna Roberts Rassi of Milk Makeup. The celebrities were out in full force to celebrate the reopening of this iconic spot.

Governor Phil Murphy, an avid LGBT advocate, took the stage. He said that Asbury Park is one of the “great New Jersey communities.” He mentioned iStar’s community-minded efforts. Bruce Springsteen, whose debut studio album, Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ, put him on the map, returned to his roots. He christened the iconic venue. And he gave a shout out to both the LGBT community, as well as sending songs out to “the folks from the old Asbury Lanes who kept this a funky place”.

This may be the best summer season yet in Asbury Park

The event was headlined by Portugal. The Man, with performances by Tangiers Blues Band. The party continued that night at The Asbury Hotel with DJ Questlove (of Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show”) behind the decks.

This summer aims to be the best summer yet. With this event kicking off what will be spectacular programming year-round at the venue. Coming up this season is a mix of both national and local talent handpicked by The Bowery Presents and David Bowd of Salt Hotels. They are part owner and operator of The Asbury Lanes. Upcoming shows will include Lupe Fiasco, Cold War Kids, The Hold Steady, Arizona and Thursday.
