Along with actor MJ Rodriguez, the Rainbow flag raising ceremony was attended by the mayor. Mayor, Ras Baraka, said LGBT constituents should pay attention to the national political agenda. It could thwart years of LGBT policy advancement achieved during former President Obama’s administration.

Newark Gay Pride President, Sharronda Wheeler said, “Despite the current political climate, when the opportunity presents itself, we must always come together as a community.” She stressed the need to not only show our pride but also to show our strength in numbers. “We will not be forced back into invisibility.”
