The “Summer Solstice” party will raise needed funds to help LGBT youth in New Jersey. HMI staff stressed that community support is most needed during the summer months. The summer time period is when schools are closed and some LGBT young people in Essex County rely solely upon HMI: NJ.

Sponsors of “Solstice: The Jersey Shore Affair” include The Asbury Hotel, BASF, Dr. Awshawnda Fleming, Horizon, Dr. Gerald Iacullo, Bari Mattes, Jeff Spelman & Ivan Lo, Dennis & Isabella Speige, Doug Stroup & Steve Porterl, PNC, Verizon, Dan Zanella & Steven Horn, Andrew Lark. Media sponsors include Out In Jersey magazine and EDGE Media.

Tickets can be purchased at hmi.org/solstice.

Meanwhile, Sarah Brown has joined HMI: NJ as the full-time Administrative Assistant. She is a graduate of Michigan State University, with majors in Anthropology and Women’s Studies, and a minor in LGBT+ studies.

Sarah is presently a second year masters student at New York University, and started her social work career by interning with Hetrick-Martin Institute: New Jersey between 2016 and 2017.
