LGBT students seeking financial assistance for their undergraduate or graduate school education are encouraged to apply this month for a Point Foundation Scholarship. Students enrolling in undergraduate or graduate programs for the 2017-2018 academic year are eligible to apply for Point’s multiyear scholarship.
Applications will be accepted until January 30, 2017 and information is available at www.pointfoundation.org/apply. A short application is available there as well as additional information about Point Foundation.
Currently the Foundation supports financial assistance and programmatic support to 84 students. The selection process for awarding Point Foundation Scholarships requires candidates to demonstrate academic excellence, leadership skills, and community involvement. Attention is given to applicants who lost financial and social support as a result of revealing their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
Once selected, each scholar is paired with a mentor and participates in leadership development training with fellow Point Scholars. Point Scholars give back to the LGBT community by completing an individual community service project each year. After graduation, scholars join Point’s growing alumni network and participate in events, conferences, and other activities.
Point Foundation empowers promising LGBT students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – to make a significant impact on society. Thanks to the generosity of individuals, corporations, and foundations, Point has invested $18 million in education and support of LGBT scholars since 2001. For more visit www.pointfoundation.org.
